Laure Prouvost’s poster project is mainly about Brexit.
The London Underground is already full of signs, texts and directions. With her posters, Prouvost throws in some more. Her signs bear poetic messages and often humoristic interpretations of motivational quotes. They interact with the complex environment they are located in – the intense hustle and bustle of commuters in the tunnels of the Tube and the current political landscape with faltering links across the Channel.
The significance of digging tunnels as a means to connect places becomes palpable in the depths of the London Underground network. But digging also brings memories to the surface. In Prouvost’s case, these memories are tied to her granddad and grandma, long-standing figures in her work, who also pop up in her posters.
This video documents how a commuter experiences her work during morning rush hour.
